BIG POPPA
Spring 2016
Woodworking
Big Poppa is a chair that I designed for a Furniture and Millwork class. My main concept for the chair was to not use any hardware. I also wanted there to be an oversized seat pan and only three legs to make the chair different in its proportions but still comfortable when being sat in. It is completely made of poplar and remains unstained to show the materials beautiful white color.
Steel Units
Spring 2014
Metalworking
The Steel Units were an exploration of multi-use furniture. Ten of us were instructed to build something that could be sat on, be stacked into a wall partition and be made into a sculptural spacial element. We designed and constructed twelve units over the period of 3 weeks. They are composed of twelve gauge steel, bent and folded to resemble origami. The unit is sixteen inches tall, the perfect seating high for the lounging, with a additional piece on one side to lean on or place a cup of coffee. When stacked, the units made a six foot high partition.
Refugee Rocker
Fall 2016
Woodworking
The Refugee Rocker was a project that I worked on during my semester abroad at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. I designing and constructed a toy for children in local refugee playgroups to use. At the end of the semester I donated my rocker to this playgroup. The rocker was designed for toddlers 2 to 4 years old. The rocker is big enough for two kids to play in. It can also transform into a table and work surface as well as a bridge for them to climb on.
